This blog post was about sharing a bed with your toddler.
I never had an issue with co-sleeping. Usually the kid starts out in its own bed and then in it creeps when you are deep in REM sleep. In that state you'd consent to just about anything. And thus it begins. Co-sleeping.
It's funny how such a little person can take up more than half of a California King, pushing mom and dad aside to the point they are almost off the California King.
The girl is a die hard co-sleeper. She still hasn't out grown this. At 7, she's still sneaking into our bed. She comes up with the used and tired excuse that my niece originally thought up:my room is haunted. Yep, ghosts that keep her up at night. They stay in her room. They don't come in mom's room. They wouldn't dare. So, these 'ghosts' scare her down the hall into my bed. And she snuggles up nice and warm right next to me to share my pillow.
The co-sleep nightmare started over Christmas break when the girl was in kindergarden. You know, kids bring home more than folders and books once they start school. This girl brought home head lice. Yep, head lice. My co-sleeper introduced me to what was one of the worst, most traumatic experiences any 34 year old woman could go through:eliminating head lice from children and the home. Now just because you are an adult does NOT mean your hair has a lice shield that the little buggers cannot penetrate. Hair is hair and they will go where the hair is.
And the hair on my head was no exception. They crawled right on into my red curls and set up shop. Just the word lice makes anyone itch.
Head lice is the number one reason why parents should NOT co-sleep. It's all fun and games till daddy is combing nits and live critters out of your hair. I mean, who else is going to do it? You cannot de-lice your own head.
It's also a sign of true, devoted, never ending LOVE. Love in the true sense of the word, too. That is love when your fella is shampooing you, combing your hair strand by strand ridding you of insect larva and creepy crawlers. And if he still wants to screw you afterward, well you got him right in the palm of your hand I'd say.
